  • Position Description:
    The Animal Sciences Department at North Dakota State University is seeking to fill a 12- month, non-tenure track Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Practice position. The department is seeking a quality individual to join the 27 faculty members whose specialties encompass physiology, reproduction, nutrition, genetics, meat science, livestock management, human animal interactions, and utilization of livestock products. The Department of Animal Sciences has three degree designations – Animal Science, Equine Science, and Veterinary Technology.

    The successful candidate will:
    • Develop and manage high-impact learning opportunities for Animal Sciences undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty and staff.
    • Coordinate a combination of teaching and learning activities that may include introductory animal science labs, 200-level livestock production course, and 200-level nutrition course, and other animal sciences courses based on departmental needs that are within the individual’s areas of expertise
    • Demonstrate skills in pedagogical methodologies that enhance student learning.
    • Coordinate and supervise undergraduate internship placement, advisement, and evaluation.
    • Serve as academic advisor for animal science undergraduates.
    • Serve the department, college, and university in such capacity as (for example) student club advisor, recruitment and retention of undergraduate students, and as a representative of responsible animal agriculture.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • M.S. (rank of Lecturer) or Ph. D. (rank of Assistant Professor of Practice) in animal sciences, agriculture education, life sciences, or related area.
    • Completion of one or more courses in pedagogical topics
    • Experience teaching livestock production or animal science related coursework.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • An appreciation for the mission of the modern Land Grant University.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a diverse team atmosphere.
    • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated ability to bring energy and innovation to traditional and nontraditional instruction.
    • Ability to promote animal science recruitment operations through creative and innovative means targeting youth audiences.
    • Additional or advanced pedagogical training (i.e. completion of a teaching certificate at an accredited university; led or attended pedagogical/teaching development workshop).
